The Modern West, an artificial society that never existed and has nothing in common with the rest of the world, really does have no mythology.

As a fan of cultures and mythology, it breaks my heart that once time-honored traditions are now being derided as "old people stuff" or as generalized stereotypes.


In science fiction and fantasy movies, a plucky group of heroes who live the old-fashioned way are pitted against a hyper-civilized force.
These include Star Wars (the Rebels vs. the Empire), Lord of the Rings (the Free Men of Middle Earth vs. the Orcs of Sauron), and Avatar (the tribal Na'vi vs. the human colonists).

Someday, our descendants will rebel against their globalized parents and reinstate humankind's oldest stories.
