SLAVIC EUROPE
Myths and Legends of Eastern Europe

The Ancient Slavs lived in harmony with their natural environment, and their gods were everywhere around them.

Unfortunately, this reverence for nature was cut down (or mutated) by the Christian Church.

In the here and now, the rise of Slavic Modern Paganism (combined with the global spread of sustainable living) has the potential to bring back this ancient reverence for the gods and spirits of the natural world.

Challenges of Studying Slavic Mythology
The Ancient Slavs left no written records of their
beliefs, which means that very little is known about Slavic religious practices before the introduction of this hot new thing called Christianity.

However, the names of Slavic gods have been preserved, and Eastern European fairy tales can offer us a glimpse into the world of the Slavs.
