Despite Occidental colonialist influence (particularly missionary activity) starting in the 1500s and kicking off in the 1800s, the myths and cultures of the South Seas live on.
Micronesia
Mariana Islands, Marshall Islands, Caroline Islands, Gilbert Islands
The Caroline Islands include the countries of Palau and the F.S. of Micronesia.
The Gilbert Islands are the main portion of the country of Kiribati.








Melanesia
Papua New Guinea and the islands near it










Cannibalism occurs in myths throughout the South Pacific.
In these myths, people who eat people appear as monsters or enemies the hero must defeat or escape.
In the myth of To Kabinana and To Karvuvu, cannibalism originated from the idiotic moon god.
Polynesia
New Zealand, Hawaii, Easter Island, and all the islands in between
Moana is the traditional Polynesian name for Oceania.
That means a certain Disney princess is literally named Oceania!
