Latin American and Caribbean Folklore
A fusion of Amerindian, African, and European storytelling traditions

For the indigenous legends of this part of the world, see "Mesoamerican Mythology", "South American Mythology", and "Taino Mythology"

Brazilian mythology
Myths of South America's largest and most populated country

Non-Hispanic Caribbean mythology
Haiti, Jamaica, the Bahamas, etc.

When West Africans were taken to the Caribbean as slaves (after having been captured in raids by other West Africans to be sold to Europeans), they brought their mythological and spiritual traditions with them.

These fused with the Christianity of their masters as well as the myths of the Indigenous peoples who were already there, to create new myths and belief systems.

Yes!  I know that Suriname is in South America; but in Suriname, they speak Dutch instead of Spanish or Portuguese, and Surinamean culture is spiritually very close to the Caribbean.

Hispanic American mythology
Countries in America where Spanish is the primary language
