Elder gods of the Vedic scriptures
Prominent in the Rig-Veda, these deities are part of a centuries-old oral tradition dating back to the Proto-Indo-European arrival around 1500 B.C.E.

Unfortunately, once the Hindu pantheon was established around 600 B.C.E., these gods were demoted to lesser status.

Later Hindu gods and their stories
The deities represented in this section assumed a dominant role after the Hindu pantheon was established from around 600 B.C.E. onwards.

In Hindu thought, the history of the world comes in four ages ,or yugas:

Satya Yuga
1,728,000 years

Treta Yuga
1,296,000 years

Dvapara Yuga
846,000 years

Kali Yuga
432,000 years

The Kali Yuga, the current age (which started in 3102 Before the Christian Era) is filled with evil and sin, and will eventually die off.

Don't be alarmed; the Kali Yuga will not end until 428899 Christ Era.

According to Hindu cosmology, a day in the life of Brahma is about 9 billion mortal years.

There are 360 Brahma days in a Brahma year, which makes for a total of about 3 trillion mortal years.

The lifespan of Brahma is 100 Brahma years, which multiplies to about 311 trillion mortal years!
That is how long the universe will last.

One Brahma hour is about 360 million mortal years.
One Brahma minute is about 6 million mortal years.
One Brahma second is about 100,000 mortal years.
