The Story of Bionicle
Gathered friends, listen again to the tale of my favorite toys as a child.

In the time before time (the 2000s), Lego launched an expansive franchise set in a universe of biomechanical robots.
Designed primarly for ages 8 to 16 (around my age group at the time), it saved Lego from money troubles and weaved a mythology of its own:

The Golden Years--2001-2003

Mata Nui (an island named after the Great Spirit worshipped by its inhabitants, the Matoran) is settled by a team of warriors known as the Toa.
Their names are:
Tahu, the Toa of fire
Gali, the Toa of water
Onua, the Toa of earth
Pohatu, the Toa of stone
Lewa, the Toa of air
Kopaka, the Toa of ice
Their quest is it defeat the evil Makuta and save Mata Nui.

The Flashback Years--2004-2005

The Turaga (tribal elders of Mata Nui) recount the good ole days when they themselves were Toa in the ancient futuristic city of Metru Nui.

The Ignition Trilogy--2006-2008

The Great Spirit Mata Nui is dying!
This terrible news kicks off a new quest:
To retrieve the Mask of Life and revive Mata Nui.

The Legend Reborn--2009

Mata Nui has crash-landed on the alien planet of Bara Magna, and acquired a physical body.
He is about to go on adventures with the local Glatorian Legends...when Bionicle is suddenly discontinued.

The Finale--2010

Mata Nui and Makuta fight each other in gigantic mechs.
Mata Nui wins, and creates a new world for all the Bionicles to live on.
Thus, their mythology comes to an end.

(as in, three story serials...only one of which ends up being finished)
